Founded more than 1,000 years ago, the abbey dates from the 12th, 17th & 18th centuries. The recent English owners started restoration work nearly 20 years ago and more recently have created an english Garden with masses of roses, herbaceous borders, and an organic vegetable garden and orchard.
Legend has it that before the monks came this was already a place of worship because of the springs - The Fontaine Vive. They are now part of the Cistercian Water system that supplied the house, fishponds and lake and is still in use today.
